www.youtube.com These are my girlies, Calisto (the fetching one) and Isis (the one that steals the food). The above link is to an even cuter and more close up vid of Calisto fetching. The thing she is fetching is a pen cap. I reward her with peas or cheerios. As to how I taught her that, well, I dunno really. I started by throwing the pen cap and rewarding her when she chased it (which she did naturally because she is a curious little thing) and then she started picking it up and trying to hide it in her hoarding spot under the bookshelves. So I positioned myself in front of the bookshelf and started snatching it off her when she tried to run past, and giving her a cheerio. So she soon got the idea: Bring the pen cap, receive a food item! At first I did have to tie a string to the pen cap and pull it along towards me, to help her get the idea (I throw the pen cap, and if the pen cap comes back to me, she will get food) Yea, it was kind of a really cool accident…

i think it’s very funny
how long did you train this with your rats??
March 14th, 2010 @1:50 pm
I don’t know how it is where you come from, but at least in Sweden it’s even illegal to have a rat alone.

Ok, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion I guess. I will admit snakes aren’t as intelligent as rats, but somewhere in history snakes have either evolved, (or in my beliefs, have been created) with the upper hand in natures food chain. So sorry about intruding with my snake comments on you’re video. P.S. I like all animals by the way, and have a breeding pair of degus that I’ve had as pets for years. They can be taught tricks and voice commands too.

Haha!

Yeah but you don’t kill whatever goes into the dog or cat food yourself. It’s not very nice coming into a pet rat video and mentioning that you use them as food for your snake. We KNOW snakes eat them but still. I love snakes but I don’t think i’ll ever have one as I had rats first and in my opinion rats are better

Rats have good smells! In fact, it has more power for sniffing than a German Sheperd! I really want one but my mom said no because of there naked tails! I think it’s cute! You know when you put a snake with a mouse, it looks like the mouse is saying “want to be friends”?.But if you put a rat, they say “You Bitch your gonna kill me! That’s all you need to know about rats! But go on this video called “earth song MJ! it so sad! Pick the one with the arms showing on the pic! SEE YA ALL! Rockstarbaby

Do you wear leather shoes? are you a vegetarian? If so, that’s great, but snakes aren’t. I didn’t own my snake, she would still exist somewhere else eating rats, just fed by a different owner. You know, your sweet little dog or cat at home doesn’t feed on just veggies either. If you feed it dog or cat food something had to die to make that food too.
(my snake would starve if you put a frozen thawed rat in her cage then u have animal suffering in different way)

Swellegant! Five stars. (and three rings?)
March 14th, 2010 @1:50 pm
There is. Not having snakes.
Or feeding them something like.. frozen ones or w/e
March 14th, 2010 @1:50 pm
ha ha no they dont, they just need twice as much attention
March 14th, 2010 @1:50 pm
I didn’t know they were so intelligent. Makes me think twice when I feed em to my snake. Wish there was another way.

WTF?! Where in hell did you get that load of shit? I own a single rat (as well as a pair of girls) and he’s brilliant. He acts like a normal rat.
Single rats get lonely, but they don’t get damages in their brain. Haha. That’s hilarious!
March 14th, 2010 @1:50 pm
You know, rats who live alone gets damages on their brain ..
March 14th, 2010 @1:50 pm
